Frequently Asked Questions
As you have likely heard by now, Target experienced unauthorized access to more than 40 million customers' payment card data from U.S. Target stores from November 27 to December 15, 2013. The compromised data includes names, credit and debit card numbers, card expiration dates and the three-digit CVV security code.
At Peoples Bank of Alabama, the security of our customers' personal and financial information is our top priority. Thus, the bank has made the decision to deactivate any of our customer's VISA debit cards that have been involved in this breach. We are contacting our customers by letter, who we believe have been impacted by the breach on Target stores, to notify them that a new debit card with a new card number is being ordered for them and that their debit card will be deactivated on January 14, 2014.
If you have received one of these letters, look for your new replacement debit card and PIN# in the mail the first week of January 2014. When you receive your new card and PIN#, you can activate your card and change your PIN# at any of our convenient ATM locations. Please be advised that effective January 21, 2014, your current debit card will no longer possess the capability to make credit, debit or ATM type transactions. Please make arrangements to change your card number and card expiration date with merchants that you may have established re-occurring debits.

Look at the bottom left corner of your checks. The first sequence of numbers, usually a nine-digit number, is your ABA (American Bankers Association) routing number. The ABA number is also known as a Routing and Transit Number, RTN, or bank number. It was established by the American Bankers Association to identify the accountholder’s bank—for example, Peoples Bank of Alabama—when processing checks or depositing money to an account.
